GE110 -- Introduction to Engineering Concepts

Fall 2003

This course provides students with an overview of computer and software engineering, as well as strategies for being successful at MSOE. Student teams build working embedded computer systems using an engineering process that includes system requirements, design, implementation and verification. (2-2-3)

Objectives

On successful completion of this course, the student will:

  • Understand the embedded system model.
  • Be familiar with computer programming constructs.
  • Demonstrate an ability to describe what engineers in various disciplines do.
  • Use an engineering process that includes system requirements, design, implementation and verification.
  • Be able to function effectively as part of an engineering design team.
  • Have planned and delivered a technical presentation.

LEGO Mindstorms

In this course you and a partner will be loaned a LEGO Mindstorm kit. You and your partner will be responsible for maintaining the kit and will be assess a fee for any missing or damaged parts at the end of the quarter.

Quizzes

Quizzes will be given nearly every week. They will be announced at least one lecture in advance. The lowest quiz score will be dropped. No make-up quizzes will be given.
