GE110 -- Lab 1

Fall 2003

Overview

In this lab you will be introduced to the LEGO RCX and the Robolab language by assembling a Tracker and completing the Pilot Training Missions.

Pre-laboratory Activity
  • With your partner, checkout a LEGO MindStorms kit from EECS Tech. Support on the third floor of the Science Building.
  • Obtain 6 AA batteries.
Laboratory Investigation
  1. Install the Robolab software onto your laptop computer.
    • Begin by running PC-install.exe from the supplied Robolab 2.5.2 CD.
    • Accept the default option to run the training missions from your computer.
    • If you do not have Apple's QuickTime, you may wish to get the latest version from Apple's web site. Otherwise the Robolab installer will offer to install an old version. (You should already have a current version of QuickTime if you are using the standard MSOE laptop image.
  2. Copy the three .dll files in the Engine folder into the main Robolab folder (where Robolab.exe is located).
  3. Organize your LEGO MindStorms set using your gray parts tray.
  4. If it is not already running, launch the Robolab software from the Start menu.
  5. Select the Setup and work through it.
  6. Work through the first Robolab Pilot Training mission. (Select Training Missions from the main menu and the select Programmer Pilot 1.)
  7. Demonstrate your mission to your lab instructor (before next lab period).
Report
